Hillside Retreat is set into a steep, forested slope with distant mountain views. The two-storey volume is carved into the hillside so that the upper level meets the landscape at grade.
Board-formed concrete, timber screens and floor-to-ceiling glass create a quiet dialogue between the built form and the terrain. Deep overhangs shade the interiors and frame the panorama.
A sequence of terraces and a lap pool follow the natural contours, extending the living areas into the landscape.

Carving the house into the slope required careful sequencing on site, with retaining structures and terraces built in step with the landscape. The finished form reads as though it grew from the hillside.
